Many customers ask: “Is this SPC flooring made with virgin materials? Why does it look a bit grey? Does that mean it has impurities? Others look whiter and more transparent — are those better?”

Let’s take a closer look at the color differences and what they really mean for SPC quality.

1. Both grey and white cores can be virgin

SPC flooring made with pure virgin material can appear slightly grey or off-white — both are normal. The real difference is in purity:

• Virgin material → clean, uniform, no black dots.

• Recycled material → visible impurities, uneven color, or black specks.

2. Why SPC colors vary — the stone powder source

The main component of SPC is calcium carbonate (CaCO₃). The origin and quality of the stone powder affect the final color.

• Shandong stone powder → whiter color, low impurity, but slightly brittle.

• Anhui stone powder (used by Furman) → natural grey tone, fine texture, higher stability, denser structure.

Production temperature and mixing consistency also play key roles in color and quality.

3. Why does some SPC look “too white”

Some manufacturers add whiteners or bleached powder to make their SPC cores look brighter. This may look clean, but it can hide quality risks:

• Whitening agents may yellow over time under UV exposure.

• Some chemical additives are not environmentally safe.

• Artificial whitening does not improve performance — only appearance.

4. Does color affect performance?

Not directly. SPC performance depends on:

• Raw material ratio

• Density and structure

• Locking precision

So, color ≠ quality — stability, density, and durability matter more.

5. About light transmission

If SPC flooring looks semi-transparent or light-transmitting, it may indicate:

• Low density, or

• Poor temperature control during extrusion.

A good SPC board should have a uniform, non-translucent core for strength and stability.
